Skip Hire FAQs

Are there any additional charges that I should be aware of?

It is rare that additional charges are applied unless there has been a breach of conditions which include but is not limited to:

  • Wasted journey charges – if we cannot deliver or collect the skip due to no fault of our own e.g. vehicles/obstructions in the way or on collection the skip being overloaded / non-compliant waste etc.
  • Waiting time charges
  • Non-compliant waste e.g. tyres, hazardous waste, plasterboard, food etc.
  • Late cancellation charges
  • Rental charges
How much notice do I need to give for a skip to be delivered?

It’s normally 2-3 days notice (times may vary during busy periods).

Are you able to provide an ETA for my delivery/collection?

We deliver/collect on an agreed day but unfortunately we can’t give times. We operate Monday – Friday between 7AM – 5PM.

Can I have aggregates delivered in my skip?

Yes, you can arrange to have aggregates delivered at the same time which can be tipped out or left in the skip.

How long can I keep the skip for?

It all depends on what size skip you have. The smaller skips, 2 & 4 yard skips, have a one week hire period while 6, 8 and 12 yard skips have a two week hire period. ROROs have a four week hire period. You must call us once you’re finished with it because we don’t automatically collect them.

What if I need it longer than the hire period?

Let us know before the hire period ends and you can arrange to extend it with the current skip (this will be chargeable depending on how many weeks you require it for).

What if I’ve finished with my skip before the hire period ends?

We don’t automatically collect skips so give us a call to arrange collection and we will collect it as soon as possible.

What size skip do I need?

Please check our ‘What size skip do I need’ page which is a helpful guide to make your decision that bit easier.

How do I pay for my skip?

All orders are paid for at the time of booking. Our staff will take payment details over the phone or at our office via credit/debit cards.

Where can my skip be placed?

Skips can be placed on private property (within your property boundary) or on a public highway/verge (permit required). Please note – a skip lorry must have sufficient space to access the property. We require at least 10ft wide for the lorry to be able to reverse straight back onto the property with no overhead obstructions (trees, branches, cables etc.,) and the lorry must stay on hardstanding ground. If you’re unsure, please contact us and we can help.

What if my skip can’t go on private property?

No problem. If the skip has to be placed on a public highway/grass verge they usually require a permit from the council. We organise this (extra charges apply) so just mention it to one of our friendly staff and we can help.

Do you offer a wait and load service?

Yes, we can do wait and loads. You have a maximum of 20 minutes loading time. Please contact us if you require this service.

What can I put in a skip?

Please check our ‘terms and conditions’ page for more information.

Will the lorry drive across a field or grass verges?

Unfortunately not. The lorry has to be on hardstanding ground at all times.

Grab Hire FAQs

What is a grab used for?

Grabs are used for the collection of:

  • Soil/soil & hardcore mixed
  • Hardcore
  • Green waste (not mixed with any other waste)

Get in touch with us to learn more about what grab hire can be used for.

How big is a grab lorry?

On average they are the same width as a skip lorry but twice the length. Sufficient clearance is required to gain access to the waste.

How long does it take to load?

This all depends on access and where the waste is located. Normally it takes up to 20 minutes to load but we allow a maximum of 30 minutes loading time.

How much can a grab lorry carry?

Empty, a grab lorry weighs 16 tonnes with a max gross weight of 32 tonnes. This means it can carry up to 16 tonnes of weight. It’s the equivalent of 2 x 8 yard skips.

How far can a grab reach?

Our grab can reach up to 8 metres.

Where do I leave my waste for grab hire?

Leaving your waste in the most efficient place for collection is essential. Please ensure you place it out in the open, away from any overhead obstructions such as trees/branches or cables. We cannot grab over the cab or the rear of the lorry. The driver must be able to pull alongside the waste so it can be grabbed from the side of the lorry and it must stay on hardstanding ground. If you’re unsure, please contact us and we will help.

Can the grab reach over walls/fences?

Yes, as long as we can pull alongside the wall/fence, on hardstanding ground and it’s no higher than 6 ft (the driver must have good visibility of the waste to be loaded).

Can I have aggregates delivered at the same time?

Yes, we can deliver aggregates at the same time, as long as there is enough space.

How much notice do you need for a grab lorry to be hired?

Are aggregate materials available for collection at your site?

Yes, as long as a suitable vehicle collects the aggregates, we can load bagged and loose aggregates.

Can you deliver aggregates if there are obstacles in the way?

If there is a fence or a wall, we can use the grab lorry to grab the aggregates/bagged aggregates over the obstacle, providing the lorry can get alongside it with the lorry on hardstanding ground. We can’t unload aggregates over roofs, vehicles etc.

What aggregate delivery methods are available?

We are able to supply aggregates loose or bagged in a skip or on our grab lorry (depending on volume/access).
